It was a busy Election Day at the vote center at Volcano Vista High School Tuesday.
Presiding Judge Susan Legits said there were 428 votes cast as of 1:30 p.m., and she expects it get busier as the day goes on.
“As more people get off of work, I expect a surge later,” Legits said. “We had a pretty good line when we first opened and it’s tapered off. But I think after work, everybody will come out again.”
Legits described the turnout early Tuesday as “slow and steady” but it was still busier than usual at VVHS, which is typically one of the busiest locations in Northwest Albuquerque.
“I’ve had other people work this voting location, and they said this is by far the busiest it’s been at this location in recent history,” Legits said.
Some of those voters shared with the Neighborhood Journal what was the most important issue for them in the election. Here’s what three of your neighbors had to say:
- Jeanette said crime was her biggest concern. “It’s getting out of hand. It seems like there’s a murder every day.”
- Frank said he thinks something needs to be done about inflation. “Everything is just so expensive now, it’s ridiculous.”
- Mark said keeping Democrats in power is most important to him. “I’m voting straight Democrat. The Republican Party is dangerous right now.”
