Cross-country
Chargers senior Vivian Mitchell placed first in the APS Invitational Open girls 5,000-meter finals with a time of 22:02.99, while senior Quint Stein placed second and sophomore Lula Lo sixth in the APS Invitational Open boys 5,000-meter run finals on Saturday, Sept. 30. Stein finished with a time of 17:46.04, and Lo finished at 18:44.59. Five thousand meters is about 3.1 miles.
In the varsity boys 5,000-meter run finals, Chargers Nate Klein and Hayden Prescott placed ninth and 10th, respectively. Klein finished with a time of 17:08.54 and Prescott 17:21.00. Albuquerque Academy came in second behind Sue Cleveland High School, with an average team time of 17:35.
Albuquerque Academy took first place in the Varsity girls 5,000-meter run finals with an average team time of 20:26. Academy’s Katie Patton placed second, Addison Julian fourth, Anna Hastings seventh and Isabella Barnes 10th in the varsity girls 5,000-meter run finals. Patton had a time of 19:23.86, about 10 seconds slower than first-place runner Daniela Figueroa of Albuquerque High.
The Chargers are scheduled to compete in the Cross Country Metro Championships at Nusenda Community Stadium Saturday, Oct. 8. The first race is the Girls Open C Race, which starts at 9:15 a.m. The meet will wrap up with the Boys Open B Race at 12:30 p.m.
Football
The Chargers varsity team defeated St. Pius X 24-13 Saturday, Oct. 1, in a nondistrict home game. Their next game is against Portales on Friday, Oct. 14, in a district home game. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Chargers are 5-2 and are ranked fifth in New Mexico Division 4A by MaxPreps.
Soccer
Academy’s boys varsity team is 9-3-3 overall this season and 5-0 in Division 4A District 6. Their 6-0 shutout against Los Alamos on Saturday, Oct. 1, was their sixth straight. Next up is Valley in a district home game at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. Academy boys are ranked No. 3 in New Mexico 4A and 10th in the state by MaxPreps.
The girls varsity team is ranked second in 4A District 6 with an overall record of 9-4-2 and a district record of 3-1 this season. They defeated St. Pius X 5-1 in a nondistrict home game Wednesday, Oct. 5. They take on Valley in a district away game at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.
Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team is 7-9 overall this season after defeating Valley 3-0 in a district home game Tuesday, Oct. 4. They take on Hope Christian in a district away game at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. Academy is ranked No. 8 in New Mexico 4A and No. 28 in the state by MaxPreps.
