Parades, carnivals, football and themed dances. It’s all part of the homecoming tradition at Albuquerque Public Schools. This year’s theme for La Cueva High School’s homecoming dance is “A Night in the City: NYC.”
Although tickets are sold out for the Sept. 10 dance, there are many ways students can participate during homecoming week. La Cueva students dressing up during the week of Sept. 6 can share their school’s traditions and photographs on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #APSHC22. Past traditions at some schools include football players wearing cheerleading outfits or students dressed like their parents did when they were in school.
On Friday, Sept. 9, La Cueva’s varsity football team takes on Volcano Vista at Wilson Stadium. The Bears’ home game starts at 7 p.m. with school alumni encouraged to attend. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students with ID, $3 for seniors over 62 and free for children under 5.
The 2022-23 “A Night in the City: NYC” homecoming dance is Saturday, Sept. 10, in La Cueva’s main gym from 7-10 p.m. According to the school’s website, the 800-maximum number of tickets available are sold out. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. Students must show proof of purchase and student ID to attend.
Other dance rules include wearing appropriate attire, being alcohol and drug free and keeping the dance moves classy. “All dancing must be upright and appropriate,” La Cueva’s dance rules read. “No twerking, grinding, or other lewd or suggestive style of dance will be tolerated. No inappropriate or outwardly suggestive dancing or moshing will be allowed.” Random breathalyzer tests may also be given upon entrance to the dance.
