Albuquerque Academy’s hard-fought match against Atrisco Heritage Academy ended in a 1-1 draw during their first game of the Metro Championships soccer tournament. Both teams scored a goal apiece in the first half played at the APS Soccer Complex Tuesday afternoon.

Midfielder Grady Gilchrist is credited for the Chargers’ lone goal, putting the ball in the back of the net during the first half. Senior Jude Logan provided the assist for Gilchrist.

Atrisco Heritage played aggressive throughout the second half, but Albuquerque Academy didn’t relent. Opportunities were wasted on both sides with sky balls and blind passes. Several Jaguar shots flew well above the crossbar, and the Chargers donated the ball to the opposition on many occasions. Despite the mistakes, the blazing sun and turf, both sides fought to the end in what was a fairly even matchup.

Albuquerque Academy takes on Manzano at 6:45 p.m. Aug. 25 on field No. 4 of the APS Soccer Complex. For the Metro Championships schedule, visit aps.edu/athletics/documents/soccer-metro-docs/schedule-of-metro-games.
