Albuquerque Academy’s homecoming weekend went out with bang as the Chargers stomped Los Alamos 35-0 on Saturday, Sept. 24. Quarterback Andres Rivera threw 13 completions for a total of 207 passing yards for the senior, according to MaxPreps stats. The Chargers scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, one in the second and two in the third, with junior Ryan Smidt making all five extra points. The varsity team is now 4-2 with its next game against rivals St. Pius X on Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff for the non-district home game is at 1 p.m.

The JV team is 0-1, having lost to Los Alamos Sept. 12. The freshman team is 0-2, also losing to Los Alamos Sept. 12 and then being defeated by Capital High School 38-22 Monday, Sept. 26. The freshman Chargers take on St. Pius X at home at 4 p.m. Oct. 17.

Soccer

The girls varsity soccer team has an overall 5-3-3 record and a 1-1 record in 4A District 6 this season. The Lady Chargers shut out Valley 10-0 Tuesday, Sept. 20, but then lost to Hope Christian 5-1 on Saturday, Sept. 24. Their next game is against Del Norte (1-11-1) Tuesday, Sept. 27. The district home game starts at 4 p.m.

The girls JV team has three wins and five losses this season, being defeated by Los Alamos 2-1 on Monday, Sept. 26. MaxPreps shows their next game against Cibola is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The boys varsity team is on a three-game winning streak, defeating Hope Christian 2-0 on Saturday. They have an overall 6-3-3 record and are ranked No. 4 among 4A schools and 13th in the state by MaxPreps. Their next game is against Del Norte at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Volleyball

Academy’s varsity team defeated Albuquerque High 3-0 on Saturday after losing to Rio Rancho and Eldorado earlier in the week. They have a 6-6 record this season and take on St. Pius X (8-5) on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The non-district home game starts at 6 p.m.

The JV team has only won one game this season against Atrisco Heritage Academy, leaving it with a 1-8 record so far this year. They lost all three games last week 2-0. They play St. Piux in a non-district home game Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m.

Cross-country

Albuquerque Academy’s cross-country teams are scheduled to compete in the APS Invite at Bullhead Park at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. According to MileSplit NM, the girls cross-country team is ranked No. 5 in the state and No. 1 in District 6-4A. Senior Kattie Patton is considered one of the top returning runners with a personal best of 18:56 in the 5K.

MileSplit NM ranks the boys cross country team at No. 7 in the state, with returning senior Harden Prescott, junior Alex Goss and senior Nate Klein all contenders to be among the All-State Performers in November. The boys team finished second in the state championships last year, behind Los Alamos, which is ranked No. 5 in the state by MileSplit NM.
