Soccer

Albuquerque Academy’s boys varsity soccer team defeated Piedra Vista 9-1 on Thursday but couldn’t keep the momentum, losing to Hobbs 3-2 on Friday and then being shut out by Sandia Prep 2-0 on Saturday. The three games were part of the Albuquerque Academy Invitational, which saw teams from all over New Mexico play on the Chargers’ home turf. Their next game is against St. Pius X in a non-district away game Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The Lady Chargers did slightly better, with the girls varsity team finishing the invitational 1-1-1. Thursday’s matchup against Sandia Prep ended in a scoreless draw. On Friday, they defeated Farmington 2-0 but then lost to Hope Christian 3-2 on Saturday. They play Sandia in their next matchup Thursday, Sept. 15 in a nondistrict away game.

Football

Albuquerque Academy’s varsity football team fell to Bloomfield 17-14 on Friday. Quarterback Andres Rivera had 252 passing yards in the nonconference home game, according to MaxPreps. Senior Kellan Gehres had 69 receiving yards, senior Jaewon Choi had 50 receiving yards, and senior Cole Conway carried the ball for 19 rushing yards and had 17 receiving yards against Bloomfield.

Volleyball

The Charger’s varsity volleyball team defeated Sandia Prep 25-22, 27-25, 25-11 on Thursday in a nondistrict away game. They play Cibola in another nondistrict away game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Cross-country

Boys and girls cross-country teams are scheduled to compete in the Hebok’o:mu’le Invitational in Zuni, New Mexico, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.
