Albuquerque Academy seniors Scarlett Peterson and Keira Hadlich recently launched The Podvocate, a student-run project where students interview an Austrian exchange student, discuss college sports, music and other community-building issues.

In the interview with Austrian exchange student Anna they talk about food, weather and driving in Austria compared to the United States. In the first edition of “You Need To Hear This!”, Academy students Julian, Isaiah and Chris provide a music year in review, and in “College Advice_1” Peterson and Hadlich interview college guidance advisors who give advice and share tips about applying and attending college.

Peterson and Hadlich recorded their first podcast during the 2022 spring semester when they interviewed history teachers about the war in Ukraine. After overcoming some technical difficulties, the podcast is now in full swing and can be listened to on Anchor and Spotify.

Danny Packer, Albuquerque Academy faculty advisor for the student publication The Advocate, helped the seniors launch their podcast. The idea came to fruition after Hadlich started podcasting in English class during her junior year.

There are currently six 10-20 minute podcasts available to listen to. More recordings are expected in the future, with Academy students being asked to provide suggestions of topics for future podcasts in an online survey.
