Albuquerque Aloft will kick off the Balloon Fiesta Friday with simultaneous launches from many elementary schools in the metro.
Albuquerque Aloft has been an annual event since in 2005 and continues to bring the joy of ballooning directly to children in their school playgrounds. Students, parents and teachers will have the chance to meet pilots and crew and learn how balloons fly.
Balloonists at each school will either fly from the campus or remain inflated at the school site. Inflation is scheduled for approximately 6:45 a.m. with launch scheduled for 7-7:30 a.m.
Albuquerque Aloft is the only Balloon Fiesta event in which balloons launch from pre-designated sites outside of Balloon Fiesta Park.
The schools in northwest Albuquerque participating are:
- Chamiza
- Petroglyph
- Tierra Antigua
- Ventana Ranch
