Phoenix police arrested Chase Cuffie, the suspect in a murder investigation in Albuquerque, Monday.

Albuquerque Police Department detectives were searching for Cuffie, 39, who is accused of fatally shooting another man as he confronted his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint in Northwest Albuquerque Saturday.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly before midnight at an apartment located at 9251 Eagle Ranch Road NW. When officers arrived on scene, they found a dead adult male with gunshot wounds, and bullet casings were seen in the living room.

According to the woman who lives in the apartment, she and two friends – a male and female – were having drinks. They went to the first-floor patio to smoke cigarettes when a man emerged from an outdoor storage room with a black handgun. The man had a shirt covering his face, but the woman told police she recognized him as her ex-boyfriend, Cuffie, who had been stalking her for several months.

Cuffie yelled at the women and pushed them at gunpoint, ordering them to go inside the apartment. She said her male friend started running for the door and Cuffie shot at him several times, killing him. The victim’s identity is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.

The woman said she ran to a neighbor’s apartment and called police.
