Albuquerque Police Department detectives arrested a man who is suspected of shooting a man in the chest last week. The man, Johnathan Martinez, was arrested Tuesday after a lengthy search in Northeast Albuquerque.
Martinez, 39, was tracked by detectives to a residence near Adams Street and Candelaria Road. He was identified as a suspect in a shooting on Nov. 23 at 7303 Montgomery Blvd., where a male victim was critically wounded after being shot in the chest.
An APD Auto Theft detective was conducting surveillance of stolen vehicles in the area of the shooting on Saturday and saw Martinez driving a stolen vehicle. After detectives “conducted covert surveillance” for about five hours on Martinez, a drone was deployed. Martinez was seen discharging a gun into the air in the direction of the drone.
The stolen vehicle was located with Martinez in the passenger seat, and an attempt at a traffic stop was made. The vehicle fled and as officers followed, Martinez discharged his weapon in the direction of officers.
The stolen vehicle was found abandoned at 1015 Georgia St. and Martinez and the female driver fled on foot. Martinez and the driver, Myranda Slayandia, were both detained and arrested.
