Albuquerque Police Department announced Monday that there is another investigation into a report of a shooting at a home of an elected official.
Last week, APD announced five separate incidents of guns being fired into the home or office of an elected official.
Monday, APD detectives said they were investigating a report of gunshots fired last month toward the home of Javier Martinez, the incoming Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives. Martinez inspected his home following reports last week of gunshots fired toward the homes of other local lawmakers. He discovered damage presumably from gunfire heard in early December outside his Albuquerque home. APD detectives went to the home and located evidence of a shooting.
Nobody was injured in the shootings reported by local lawmakers, which occurred in December and early January. In addition to Martinez, APD is looking into shootings at the homes of Bernalillo County Commissioners Adriann Barboa and Debbie O’Malley and of State Sen. Linda Lopez and at a downtown law office where state Sen. Moe Maestas works. Multiple shots were also reported in December at the former campaign office of Raul Torrez, who was elected as New Mexico Attorney General.
“Our detectives are working hard to get to the bottom of these shootings,” APD Chief Harold Medina said. “We have identified potential connections between some of the shootings, and detectives are pursuing every possible lead.”
