Albuquerque Public Schools will hold flu and COVID vaccination clinics at schools and facilities throughout November. A clinic will be held from 2-6 p.m. Friday at Chamiza Elementary School. Appointments are not required for flu shots but are recommended for the COVID-19 booster or vaccine. The COVID-19 boosters are made to better protect against the most recently circulating variant. The CDC recommends COVID vaccines for everyone age 6 months and older and boosters for everyone age 5 years and older who are eligible to receive one.

Gael Rodriguez was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for a carjacking in Northwest Albuquerque in January, according to a Wednesday announcement from Alexander M.M. Uballez, the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico. On Jan. 16, police responded to a carjacking at the River Walk apartments, near Corrales and Alameda, and found a woman bleeding from her left hand. It was more good news at the pumps for Albuquerque motorists this week as gas prices dropped for the second week in a row, going from $3.41 last week to $3.34 on Wednesday. The news was even better in Northwest Albuquerque as nearly every gas station had prices below the citywide average. Albuquerque Public Schools and B&D Industries have partnered together to present the 2022 Tradespeople Coloring Contest. The contest is open to students in grades 2-5, and B&D will award prizes for the top three submissions in each grade. Participants must complete the entry form with one entry per student being accepted. When Deborah Condit opened Books on the Bosque on Oct. 15 in northwest Albuquerque, it was the culmination of a lifelong dream. Tuesday afternoon, that dream got even better with a visit from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. A man was arrested outside of the Lowe’s near Coors and Alameda last week for brandishing a machete and threatening to kill another man. Albuquerque Police Department said 50-year-old Anthony Lobato was waving a machete outside the store Thursday and at one point turned to another man and said he was going to kill him. Lobato is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Saturday was an emotional afternoon in the La Cueva High School gym as the volleyball team honored four seniors who played their last home game for the Bears and the team presented longtime local volleyball coach Fred Ader with a check for the money the program raised to help aid in his fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
