Fresh off of hosting its first private event last month, Whiptail will be holding a Whiskey Dinner on Oct. 25. The four-course meal will be $125 per person with whiskey parings for each course. Albuquerque Public Schools is joining in acknowledging and celebrating the workers who make sure students have healthy, tasty lunches every day as part of National School Lunch Week. The celebration kicked off Tuesday with the theme of “Peace, Love & School Lunch,” which highlights the importance healthy school lunches to students’ success inside and outside of the classroom. Cafeterias will be decorated 1970s-style, and workers will also dress up. According to a release, APS serves around 29,000 breakfasts and 40,000 lunches daily to students and staff. The event is sponsored by Be Kind Real Estate and Coldwell Banker Legacy. The girls finished fourth out of 11 teams with 104 points. The city of Albuquerque, Federal Highway Administration and New Mexico Department of Transportation will be hosting public meetings to discuss proposed improvements to Unser Blvd. and Paseo del Norte. District 5 City Councilor Dan Lewis announced the unanimous adoption of R-22-34 in June by the Albuquerque City Council that appropriated $100,000,000 in new projects for the city of Albuquerque using gross receipts tax improvement revenue bonds. Councilor Lewis co-sponsored the resolution that includes $15,000,000 for expansion of Paseo del Norte on the Northwest Mesa. Quarterback Elliot Paskett-Bell closed out rivalry week with a sterling performance and led Volcano Vista High School’s football team to a 57-7, mercy rule-shortened win over Cibola Friday night. “Celebrating El Bosque” is debuting at the Open Space Visitor Center Saturday. The free art show from Brian Stinson will be presented through Dec. 17 at the center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. there will be an opening reception from 2-4 p.m. Saturday where you can meet Stinson and discuss his work. There were two separate balloon crashes on the West Side Friday morning that caused minor injuries to two people. A woman injured her leg when a hot air balloon crashed near Golf Course and Benton, and a juvenile was injured in a hard landing in the Bosque near Paseo Del Norte. The latter crash caused the eastbound right lane at the river bridge to be closed Friday. The woman and the juvenile were hospitalized.
