Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a body found outside Discount Tires on Coors and Montano Sunday morning as a homicide. According to a release from APD, Albuquerque Fire Rescue reported a person found dead outside the tire shop around 7:40 a.m. Sunday to police. Police officials said it’s possible the person was murdered and homicide detectives have begun an investigation. Tuesday, APD identified the person found dead as Maria Elena Rodriguez. The case is still  is being investigated as a suspicious death. An autopsy did not reveal any signs of trauma.

Albuquerque Police Department arrested 14-year-old Izaiah Ruiz Friday and charged him with the murder of 21-year-old Eddy Ortiz. Ortiz  was hosting a party at his home Wednesday night in southwest Albuquerque. APD detectivities determined Ruiz was part of a group of teenagers who had carjacked two victims at gunpoint earlier Wednesday. The group showed up at Ortiz’s home at 3 a.m. Thursday. Albuquerque Aloft will kick off the Balloon Fiesta Friday with simultaneous launches from many elementary schools in the metro. Albuquerque Aloft has been an annual event since in 2005 and continues to bring the joy of ballooning directly to children in their school playgrounds. Students, parents and teachers will have the chance to meet pilots and crew and learn how balloons fly. Balloonists at each school will either fly from the campus or remain inflated at the school site. The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Albuquerque dropped slightly this week, going from $3.61 last week to $3.57 Wednesday. In northwest Albuquerque, several stations were below the average. Costco and Sam’s Club, which each require a membership, were at $3.36. The Speedway on Alameda was also at $3.36. The Circle K on Unser was at $3.45 and the Speedway on Paradise was at $3.49. Albuquerque Fire Rescue crews rescued an unconscious victim from the kitchen of a home on fire Tuesday morning. The fire was at a residence on Golondrina NW. When crews arrived, they discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. The fire crews forced entry into the home and confirmed that the structure was occupied. Fire rescue 18 performed CPR on the patient, reviving them, and the patient was transported. Firefighters were able to get fire under control with no firefighter injuries.
