A La Cueva High School student was arrested Friday as school ended after physically assaulting Principal Dana Lee, according to an email sent from the school to parents that was obtained by the Neighborhood Journal. According to Troy Hughes, the associate superintendent of learning for Zone 4, Lee overheard chatter of a student fight and tried to intervene. One student threw a knife into a trash can, then hit Lee when she tried to retrieve the weapon. The Open Space Visitor Center is hosting The Solstice Seed Mandala creation event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The Solstice Seed Mandala creation is an annual community art-making event to celebrate the start of the winter season. You will create a Mandala using different kinds of grains and seeds. Albuquerque Police Department homicide detectives announced Thursday that the suspect who was accused  of killing his wife on Thanksgiving died while being treated at the hospital after his arrest. Karlan Denio was charged with murdering his wife, Connie Denio, and dismembering her body at their home at 10400 Vista Del Sol NW during what has been called a “mental health crisis.” Karlan Denio suffered a self-inflicted wounds from a knife and passed away while receiving medical treatment at UNH Hospital.

Sunset View Elementary School’s PTA is presenting its annual Winter Ball Thursday night. The event runs from 6-7:30 p.m. at Paradise Hills Community Center.
