Nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by their partner in the U.S., which is more than 10 million people per year. Housing crisis The People’s Housing Project made some progress with the city council this week as Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn proposed a memorandum to urge the state legislature to pass a law that allows rent control and its enforcement in Albuquerque. Councilors will vote on the memorandum at the next meeting, set for Oct.17. Organizers, who have been at meetings since the city commenced in person, thanked the council and urged them to vote in favor of the memorial. The Albuquerque Police Department has issued a crime stoppers bulletin for a robbery that occurred Sept. 10 at the Chevron gas station at 3205 Montgomery NE near I-25.  The man in the photo attempted to rob the store at gunpoint around 11 p.m., and police are offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of this individual.  Anyone with information is asked to contact crime stoppers at 505-843-STOP (7867), or go to the crime stoppers page at p3tips.com/531.

The Albuquerque Police made 93 arrests with offenders on outstanding warrants during a three-day-operation last week.  From Sept. 26-28, teams specifically focused on offenders wanted for violent and property crimes who had multiple felony warrants for crimes such as auto theft, burglary and robbery. This push was an effort to reduce these repeat criminal offenders from victimizing the community.  Five stolen vehicles were recovered in the arrests, and one firearm seized.  Of the arrests made, 11 of 27 warrants were in the Northeast Command area and three arrests from nine warrants served in the Foothills areas. https://twitter.com/ABQPOLICE/status/1575910308110999553

Here is a recap of last week’s games for Eldorado High School sports teams according to the Albuquerque Public Schools athletics schedule and Maxpreps. Football Rivalry week brought the varsity team (1-6) game on Friday with La Cueva Bears at Wilson stadium. LCHS won with a final score of 63-21. For low-income families, there is still economic relief available on the yes NM website and applications are still being taken until Friday, Oct. 7.  The state legislature secured $10 million for economic relief in 2022, and people can still apply.  Folks just need to be a New Mexico resident, submit their social security number or Taxpayer ID number, or a NM driver’s license, as well as banking information and a valid address.  Payments up to $400 per household will issued no later than the end of November. Final notification of payment determination will be given over email or letter.

Families from all over the neighborhood came out to SY Jackson Elementary School Friday morning for the ABQ Aloft Fiesta kickoff event that brings balloons for kids to see, learn about and enjoy outside of the annual Balloon Fiesta.  Principal Jack Vermillion said the event brings hundreds of families, and the school provided pre-ordered breakfast burritos from Weck’s and donuts from Two Boys. The Albuquerque Police are investigating what has been deemed a suspicious death on Pitt Street between Comanche and Candelaria near Eubank NE Thursday afternoon.  APD found a dead male in the area, and the homicide unit has taken over the investigation.  According to ABQRAW, around 9:45 p.m., a man on a bicycle was detained near the corner of Pitt Street NE and Pitt Court NE and was placed in the back of a police car, where he was seen willingly talking to officers.  According to APD, no one is considered a suspect at this time, but authorities will continue to…
