The People’s Housing Project protested the lack of action the city council has taken toward the housing crisis outside Monday’s  meeting in Civic Plaza. Around 50 protest participants pleaded with the council to support and pass a resolution for the state legislature to end the prohibition on rent control. The organization has been at public comment by the dozens explaining the challenges for homeless and vulnerable residents. The PHP said a council-approved resolution would carry a lot of weight with state legislators. Here is a recap of last week’s games for Eldorado High School teams, according to the Albuquerque Public Schools athletics schedule and Maxpreps. Football The Golden Eagles varsity football team finally had its first win on Friday during an away game against the Clovis Wildcats with a final score of 28-27. Map A, Map 5 and Map 4 were the final maps up for the council to vote on at the council meeting Monday, Sept. 19.  Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn (District 7) said she wanted to propose and discuss Map 5 as it would give an entirely new district for a majority-minority area to be represented by one councilor, but Map A was the most agreed upon with the public. Pop-Pop’s opened its doors at 6300 San Mateo Blvd. NE on the last day of August and had a welcoming reception to the neighborhood. The shop closed from Sept. 13-14 to perk up the location’s newly painted white walls with a mural from @nb.artistry, who has done murals at locations throughout the city such as Green Jeans or his Martin Luther King Jr. memorial piece downtown.  Go check out the new mural and get a tasty Italian ice treat at the newly opened Pop-Pop’s.

The third call for a suspected homicide in the overnight hours from Wednesday to Thursday brought officers to the Mission Hill apartments on Menaul near Eubank NE, where they found 65-year-old Willian Lee Vencill shot to death in a blue vehicle. Albuquerque Police Department communications director Gilbert Gallegos said police responded to a call of shots fired around 2 a.m. Thursday and that the man did live in the apartments. Every Friday, the Juan Tabo Library will be putting on a scavenger hunt in the library for kids to have an interactive project looking for three clues each week. These clues will be bring kids to figures of different characters in literature. When the clues are turned in, children will get a sticker each week to put in their own sticker book.  After four stickers, participants then get a mystery prize.
