One thing Albuquerque is in abundance of is the rich tapestry of local art and murals, and a new public art scavenger hunt along Route 66 aims to get families out of the house this fall to engage the community and explore the city.  The One Albuquerque: Youth Connect initiative is launching a public art scavenger hunt in September to encourage kids, teens and families to explore Route 66 and celebrate public art in Albuquerque. The city of Albuquerque’s Department of Arts & Culture is creating an activity book to tell Albuquerque’s told and untold stories of places, people and events past and present from varied voices and viewpoints. Creatives are invited to submit black-and-white line drawings, art and educational activities, graphic stories and short written work for the forthcoming activity book. Starting Sept. 12, the city of Albuquerque is offering SNAP recipients discounted admission to the ABQ BioPark, Albuquerque Museum and the International Balloon Museum.  This pilot program, which runs for the next three months, makes these three venues more accessible to New Mexicans experiencing financial barriers and is a step in making Albuquerque a more equitable and inclusive place to live and raise a family. The New Mexico State Fair Parade is the kickoff to a full week of rides, food and fun.
