The new district mapping done every decade will become official Oct. 20 after Concept Map A was approved by the Albuquerque City Council in September. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and women remind each other to go get mammograms in addition to other women’s health concerns. The wellness health event hosted by Lovelace Women’s Hospital at 4701 Montgomery Blvd. NE will feature walk-in mammograms, women’s health screenings, face painting, Halloween activities, food trucks and more. Albuquerque Family and Community Services is hosting a costume drive for kids in need who cannot afford an outfit to trick-or-treat in this Halloween. If families have old, gently used costumes they won’t use again, they can donate them to Albuquerque Families in Need. The costumes must not have stains, missing buttons, zippers or items, and sizes from infant to adult are desired. People can drop off costumes at any city community center until Oct. 20.

In an effort to make trick-or-treating safer for kids, Nextdoor is offering a map made for parents to use for the Halloween holiday. The Nextdoor Treat Map is an interactive local guide where people can let their neighbors know how they plan to celebrate Halloween, and adding a home to the Treat Map will also generate a post to a person’s newsfeed. Albuquerque Police are once again having a meet and greet event, Hoagies with Heroes, with residents at the Big Lots from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12. For the better part of the last year, folks had been waiting on the restaurant to open.
