For the second time in two days, SWAT has been called out to help apprehend a suspect who has barricaded themself. Just after midnight Monday, Albuquerque Police Department officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute near Rhode Island Street NE and Claremont Avenue NE. Officers attempted to apprehend a suspect who was wanted for domestic violence charges. The suspect then barricaded themself inside their residence, refusing to cooperate with officers. The Neighborhood Journal received the award for Best Website Saturday night at the New Mexico Press Association Champions of the People banquet in Santa Fe.As a digital-only publication, the website that launched this year was competing in the Dailies Class I division, placing it in direct competition with the biggest newspapers in the state.The award took many by surprise, including presenter and NMPA Board First Vice President Nick Seibel. “What is this? Sobriety checkpoints will be up throughout Bernalillo County for the month of November. Deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting DWI-directed patrols in addition to checkpoints to look for people driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs in an effort to reduce the number of impaired driving-related crashes and fatalities. The department also encourages citizens to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911 and to not drive if consuming alcohol. It also encourages the use of ride share services to avoid driving and driving.

The Albuquerque Police Department isn’t the only city entity giving Halloween safety advice. Albuquerque Fire Rescue has its own tips when it comes to spooky celebrations. While many people think of scares and thrills this time of year, it can also be dangerous. Popular Halloween decorations and costumes can come with a fire hazard. The Albuquerque Street Maintenance Department recently conducted a dry run of all operations and procedures planned for inclement winter weather. When inclement winter weather does occur, the division dispatches as many as 39 two-man crews to plow, salt and cinder Albuquerque’s roadways. Kroger and Albertson’s announced a $24.6 million merger Friday. The price includes Kroger acquiring all outstanding shares of Albertson’s Companies, Inc., including the assumption of $4.7 billion of Albertsons Cos. Debt. The agreement has been unanimously approved by the board of directors of each company.
