Crews will be working Saturdays on a Ventana Ranch water pipeline project in order to stay on schedule. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., workers will be crushing rock in the Piedras Marcadas Arroyo area. Updates on the project sent to residents of the neighborhood state that regular work hours for the project are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, altho longer hours or weekend work may be scheduled as needed and that all work is weather permitting and subject to change. The Wellness Council of America has designated the city as a Platinum Well Workplace, recognizing it as one of the nation’s healthiest workplaces in 2022. The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Albuquerque dropped again, going from $4.57 on June 29 to $4.46 on Wednesday, according to AAA. That is significantly below the national average, which stands at $4.63. That trend carried over into the neighborhood as several stations in northwest Albuquerque had prices below the citywide average. In an effort to address staff shortages, Albuquerque Public Schools is hosting a Transfer Expo and Job Fair Wednesday at Berna Facio Professional Development Center, 3315 Louisiana Blvd. NE. The district is in need of nurses, IT techs, educational assistants, bus drivers, custodians, food service workers, maintenance workers, coaches and substitute teachers. When school resumes for the 2022-23 school year next month, Lyndon B. Johnson Middle School will have a new leader. Paula Nunez was named the new principal in May, and she begins her duties in the role this month. She previously served as the assistant principal of curriculum at Volcano Vista High School. Nunez has also worked as a middle school instructional coach, a district math coach, a middle school math teacher and a kindergarten teacher. The first day back for teachers and staff is Aug. 3, while students’ first day is Aug. 10.
Summer training for the Volcano Vista High School girls soccer team is approaching. Training and conditioning sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. July 14 and continue through Aug. 2, Monday through Friday. Participants should bring cleats, running shoes, a soccer ball and water. Try-outs for the team will be held 3:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 8-9. Varsity practices will then get under way at 2:45 p.m. Aug. 10. Those participating can fill out appropriate forms online, including the physical form and information and eighth-grade/newcomer information sheet.
