La Cueva’s head football coach Brandon Back is taking the reins as athletic director at the school, filling the position of LeeAnn Moores, who is retiring this year.

“I look forward to working with all of our coaches here at La Cueva,” Back said in an email response to questions. “We have an excellent veteran staff here at LC, and working closer with all coaches was intriguing to me.”

Back has been La Cueva’s head football coach for nine years, helping the team to rise in the ranks and move from Division 5A to 6A between the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. The team finished the 2021-22 season with an overall record of 10-2, a district record of 6-0, and was ranked third in the state and third in their division, according to MaxPreps.

As athletic director, Back will help coordinate the different sports programs at the school; ensure compliance of athletic programs policies, procedures and guidelines; and assist in the supervision and evaluation of coaches at La Cueva, among other duties.

“Meeting the needs of all of our programs with the limited budget the district provides will be a big challenge,” Back said.

An online job description of the 2022-23 athletic director position at La Cueva says the expected start date is Aug. 3, 2022, with a salary schedule of A Days: 184 hours.
