People can now report bad drivers on a portal provided by Albuquerque Police Department. The portal that went live Tuesday, June 28, targets road rage and aggressive driving, which have become overwhelming issues in Albuquerque with seven road rage related homicides last year. A person can capture the bad behavior and upload it to the police portal; if preferred, they can be sent anonymously.
APD has been targeting street racing with such measures as installing speed cameras and has now created the Aggressive Driving Unit. The unit is two detectives investigating road rage and hit-and-run crash cases.
Field officers will initially investigate these types of incidents, and if a victim or witness has video evidence the ADU can then attempt to locate any offenders and take over the case with arrest, citation or court summons.
Chief Harold Medina said, “Last year we unfortunately had seven homicides related to road rage in our city, and it’s unacceptable … the creation of this unit and evidence portal is another way to hold dangerous drivers accountable.”
