The La Cueva varsity baseball team advanced to the semifinals in the 2022 NMAA State Championships 5A tournament after an 8-6 win over Cleveland High School Thursday afternoon. The game was played at UNM’s Santa Ana Star field south of the Pit.

The Bears are seeded No. 3 in the tournament, behind No. 2 Sandia and No. 1 Carlsbad. Carlsbad defeated No. 9 Farmington 8-1 in their quarterfinal match on Thursday. They will play No. 5 Hobbs in Friday’s semifinal match. Hobbs defeated No. 4 Organ Mountain 5-1 on Thursday.

La Cueva will take on Sandia in the semifinal match on Friday. Sandia defeated Rio Rancho 7-2 in their quarterfinal match on Thursday. The La Cueva-Sandia game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Santa Ana Field.
