Cross-country
Albuquerque Academy’s girls varsity cross-country team placed second in the APS Metro Cross Country Championships over the weekend. The team had an average time of 20:30 in the 5,000 Meter Run Finals, ending the meet with 62 points. Sue Cleveland High School came in first for girls varsity, also with 62 points and an average team time of 20:25. Addison Julian had the fastest time for the Lady Chargers at 19:30.30, giving her a third-place finish behind Daniela Figueroa of Albuquerque High and first-place runner Leah Futey of Sue Cleveland High School.
The boys varsity team finished in fifth place with 138 points and an average team time of 17:52 in the 5,000 Meter Run Finals. Rio Rancho took first with an average team time of 16:41. Akilan Sankaran had the fastest time on the Chargers boys varsity team, finishing 21st at 17:39.10. Sandia’s Steven West took first place with a time of 15:38.40.
Soccer
The Chargers boys varsity team is on a seven-game winning streak after defeating Valley 2-1 on Thursday, Oct. 6. They play Hope Christian in a district away game at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11. The boys have a 10-3-3 overall record and are 6-0 in 4A District 6.
The girls varsity team racked up 14 goals against Valley on Thursday, adding another clean sheet to the books, but then lost to Hope Christian 3-2 on Monday, Oct. 10. They are now 4-2 in 4A District 6 with a 10-4-3 overall record this season. They play Del Norte in a district away game at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13.
Volleyball
The varsity volleyball team lost to Hope Christian 3-2 on Thursday, Oct. 6, bringing its record to 1-1 in 4A District 6A. They have a 7-10 record overall this season and take on Del Norte next in a district home game Tuesday, Oct. 11. That game starts at 6 p.m.
Football
Albuquerque Academy had a bye week, resting up before they take on Portales on Friday, Oct. 14, in their first district home game of the season. That game kicks off at 3 p.m. The Chargers are currently 5-2 overall this season and are ranked No. 44 in the state by MaxPreps. Portales is ranked No. 30.
