As the weather heats up, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque is offering swim lessons and aquatic camps. A JCC aquatics program flyer says swimming is not only fun, but also improves cognition.

“All the movement and coordination also helps build neurons in your child’s brain. That means swimming can help your child develop stronger academic skills, too,” the flyer reads. In addition to better cognition, the flyer says swimming helps improve fine and gross motor skills, coordination, strength, confidence, social skills, sleep and appetite.

The JCC offers various swimming programs, including a parent and tot swim class for 9-month- to 3-year-olds, different classes for 3-year-olds and up, group swim lessons, private lessons, and a JCC Skills and Drills Camp. An AquaFitness class is also available for free to JCC members.

The first Skills and Drills Camp is scheduled for June 6-30, and the second session July 5-28. Both sessions are scheduled for 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The cost for members is $205 for the first child, $185 for the second and $175 for the third. Nonmembers will pay $300 for the first child, $280 for the second, and $260 for the third.

The center is located at 5520 Wyoming Blvd. NE.

The swim camp is popular and fills up fast, according to the JCC. Early registration is encouraged to secure a spot. Email Aquatics@jccabq.org for more information or visit jccabq.org/skills-drills-camp.
