A new program connects businesses and residents directly to Albuquerque Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center.
Community Connect Camera and Integration, a partnership between APD and the city’s planning and technology and innovation, allows residents to provide law enforcement with footage that makes it easier and more efficient to make arrests, according to a press release from the city. Through the initiative, investigators will be able to use video evidence to identify offenders and connect investigations.
There are two ways to participate in the free and voluntary program: the map registry or real-time integration.
Through map registry, participants add the location of their cameras to the registry. If a crime is reported in that area, law enforcement can request the footage directly.
The real-time integration option “saves crucial time for officers and allows the owner of a camera to integrate their device directly to the Real Time Crime Center, meaning detectives would be provided with real-time video of a crime.”
For this integration, a compatible, existing camera system can be used, or compatible Stratocast brand cloud-based cameras can be used without making changes to an existing system. Community Connect will provide support on installation requirements. It will als be able to check for and acquire compatible equipment.
Additionally, the Municipal Development Department and APD installed seven new cameras in the downtown area, along Central between First and Seventh streets, several weeks ago. These devices allow operators to zoom in on objects and individuals from several blocks away and are also directly connected to the Real Time Crime Center.
