Students at Double Eagle Elementary School are celebrating Spirit Week Tuesday, Oct. 11, to Friday, Oct. 14.
Kids are returning to school after taking a few days off for fall break and Indigenous People’s Day. Although they will be back at school, students at Double Eagle may look like they’re still dressed for Saturday morning cartoons, as Tuesday, Oct. 11, is Pajama Day.
The next day, Oct. 12, is Wacky Wednesday. Kids can be as wacky as their imagination allows, so long as they are abiding by the school dress code. Mismatched socks, mohawks, dyed hair and decorated backpacks will be the norm for day.
On Thursday, Oct. 13, kids will come dressed as their favorite movie character. The school reminds students and parents that blood, gore and weapons are prohibited. The week ends with a full blast of Double Eagle Spirit on Friday, Oct. 14, when students will wear the school’s turquoise and black colors.
Friday is also Double Eagle’s Jog-A-Thon. The fundraising event will be used to replace the track around the large field. Help the cause by donating or making a pledge to a Double Eagle student on mybooster.com.
The Joga-A-Thon kicks off with first graders from 8:10-8:35 a.m., followed by kindergartners from 8:40-9:05 a.m. Second graders will run from 9:35-10 a.m., and third graders will go from 10:05-10:35 a.m. Fourth graders are scheduled to run from 10:40-11:05 a.m., and fifth graders from 11:10-11:35 a.m. La Cueva High School and UNM will provide music and support during the Jog-A-Thon as parents and teachers cheer on student runners.
Double Eagle is also hosting a Fall Festival from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. Join teachers, parents, staff and students for pizza, food trucks, pumpkin games and face painting. The festival takes place on the school’s grassy field, where there will also be a pumpkin carving contest. Students can bring pumpkins they’ve carved at home for entry into the contest. Categories for the contest are funny, scary and most original carved or decorated pumpkin.
