New Mexico United is in its off season, the 2022 FIFA World Cup over and Pelé is now among the fútbol gods, yet the love of the game lives on at the International Indoor Soccer Arena in northeast Albuquerque.
The arena offers adult, high school and youth leagues; an adult open gym; soccer camps; and classes for toddlers and tykes. The IISA is located at 1311 Cuesta Arriba Ct. NE in a modern building between Jefferson and Edith close to Paseo Del Norte Boulevard.
The adult open gym offers lunchtime pickup games every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 2:30 p.m. Members pay $5 per session and nonmembers $10. Mondays are for recreational play only while Wednesdays and Fridays offer two sessions from noon to 1:15 p.m. and 1:15-2:30 p.m.
League play, classes and camps vary in price and dates throughout the year. Adult League Winter II sign-ups were in late November at a cost of $655 a team. The adult league offers men’s, women’s and co-ed level play and fill up fast.
Lil’ Kickers & Skills Institute classes resume Jan. 2 and continue throughout the year. The Bunnies classes is for kids ages 18-24 months and incorporates sensory play and enhance gross motor skills. Thumpers classes are for kids 25-36 months, Cottontails classes for kids ages 2 1/2-3 1/2 years and Hoppers classes for 3- to 4-year-olds.
