The Albuquerque Public Schools Foundation and photographer Frank Frost have teamed up again to honor senior students who have given back to their community.

Since 2008, seniors have been recognized and praised for their work to make their community a better place. One student from each APS school and one magnet school was picked by nominations submitted by school staff and the community.

The 2022 Selfless Senior from Volcano Vista is Krystal Campos, who donated to elementary schools to help add outdoor learning spaces during the pandemic.

Here’s what Campos told the APS Foundation about her work:

“Hi, there! My name is Krystal Campos, and I am the Selfless Senior from Volcano Vista High School. I grew up with the mindset that giving back is a blessing. Being capable and willing to share or give back always brings an indescribable sense of joy to my life. Donating tables, using my $1400.00 stimulus money, to Longfellow, Eugene Field, and Lew Wallace Elementary Schools was a way I could help add outdoor learning and dining spaces to combat the spread of Covid 19. The mindset of what I can do for others has helped me grow and feel especially grateful for all I have. So, whenever an opportunity arises where I am asked if I can help out in the community, I always want to show up and do my part to the best of my ability.”

All Selfless Seniors will receive a senior photo from Frost, which will be used on the APS website, on billboards and on display boards at each APS high school and at the Albuquerque International Sunport.

Campos and her fellow Selfless Seniors will be honored on April 29 at Sandia Resort & Casino.
