La Cueva’s girls varsity soccer team was defeated 5-1 by Volcano Vista Friday night in their second match of the season. The loss comes on the heels of a 3-2 defeat against Albuquerque High during their season opener. Friday’s game was the first of the season for the Hawks, who played on their home turf.

La Cueva sophomore Makala Chavez scored the lone goal for the Bears with an assist by freshman Makena Hix. Hawks junior Kayla Salazar scored two goals, sophomore Emma Lucero scored two, and eighth-grader Kasey Sandoval scored one goal for Volcano Vista, helping to give the team a total of 14 points for the game. MaxPreps gives two points for a goal and one point for an assist.
