Valley High School’s girls varsity soccer team took a 10-goal pummeling from La Cueva during Wednesday’s Metro Championships matchup at the APS Soccer Complex.

“I think my team performed well. We had a rough start on Monday, and we had a classroom session for practice on Tuesday, and they took those and executed them well for yesterday’s game,” said Amber Ashcraft, head girls soccer coach for La Cueva.

Bears sophomore Leah Barone and senior Amber Otts both earned hat tricks, while senior Olivia Haddock scored two goals. Sophomore B. Garciduenas and senior Joy Lantz also scored a goal apiece.

“I thought we executed well. When we went to goal, we just didn’t shoot the ball, but we shot the ball with a purpose and with some accuracy,” Ashcraft said.

The Lady Bears take on Volcano Vista Saturday, Aug. 27, on Field 4 of the APS Soccer Complex. That game is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m.

“For us going forward we need to have a really good game against Volcano Vista,” Ashcraft said. “Win or lose, we need to perform better than we did last week against them. So that’s really what I’m looking for. I’m not really looking for winning this tournament because it’s so early in the season. What I’m looking for is my team improving each game.”
