La Cueva’s boys and girls cross-country teams both finished fifth in the 2022 5A Western Sky Community Care State Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

The boys finished with a total time of 1:27:26.31 and an average team time of 17:29.27. Rio Rancho finished first in the boys 5K race with a total time of 1:22:09.40 and an average team time of 16:25.88.

Spencer Gilbertson had the fastest time for the Bears, finishing 10th with a time of 16:30.96. Sandia’s Steven West finished first in the boys race with a time of 15:04.38.

On the girls side, the Lady Bears finished with a total time of 1:44:54.29 and an average team time of 20:58.86. Cleveland took the state title in the girls 5K race with a total time of 1:38:13.90 and an average team time of 19:38.78.

Arianna Thiel-Hadjilambrinos placed 11th for the Lady Bears with a time of 19:35.66. Leah Futey of Cleveland took first in girls 5A, finishing with a time of 18:17.41.
