The La Cueva softball team finished its regular season at the top of the 5A District 2 standings, defeating Eldorado 15-1 and 18-2 during Saturday’s double header at Eldorado. The team is on 14-game winning streak, going undefeated in their district with 10 wins. Overall, the team finished the season 18-6, having only lost in tournament and nondistrict games, falling twice to top-ranked Carlsbad.

The Bears take on Atrisco Heritage at 4 p.m. May 6 in a single-elimination play-in game for the 2022 NMAA Softball Championships. The winner takes on either Rio Rancho or Roswell in the first round of double-elimination games May 12 at Cleveland High School.
