Football
The Bears took care of business in Los Lunas, bringing home a 49-17 win during Friday’s away game down south. La Cueva’s varsity football team is on a three-game winning streak with a 4-1 record, having lost to Cleveland Aug. 26. They take on Albuquerque High in a non-district away game at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.
The JV team is undefeated this season with a 4-0 record. They play West Mesa Monday, Sept. 19, in a non-district home game starting at 4:15 p.m. The freshman team is also undefeated with a 3-0 record. The freshman team plays West Mesa Tuesday, Sept. 20, in a non-district away game starting at 4:30 p.m.
Soccer
La Cueva’s boys varsity team shoutout Las Cruces 7-0 Saturday, Sept. 17, giving them their fifth win this season. They have a 5-1-3 record and moved up in the 5A nationwide rankings to the number 462 spot prior to Saturday’s game. They play West Mesa in a district home game at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20.
The girls varsity team is on a three-game winning streak, with a 6-3 overall record. They play their first 5A District 2 game of the season against West Mesa at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20. The girls JV team is 2-0 this season with their next game against Hobbs at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22. The girls freshman team plays Sandia in a district home game at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19.
Volleyball
The 2021 varsity volleyball state and 2022 varsity volleyball metro champs are undefeated with a 7-0 record this season, having defeated Cibola in three out of four games Thursday, Sept. 15. They play Cleveland in a non-district away game Tuesday, Sept. 20 starting at 6:30 p.m. The JV team is on a three-game winning streak with a 3-1 record this season. They also play Cleveland in a non-district away game Tuesday, Sept. 20. That game starts at 5 p.m. The freshman team play Cleveland the same day at 4 p.m. They also have a 3-1 record this season.
Cross-country
Claire McDonald placed 23rd for La Cueva’s girls JV cross-country team in the 5,000-meter run finals during the Sept. 17 Rio Rancho Jamboree. Reagan Devenport placed 29th and Sarah Craig placed 43rd in the same race. La Cueva’s JV girls team score of 199 put them in eighth place for the meet. Jacob Oswald placed seventh, Spencer Jenkins 13th, Nikko Mihan 16th and Jefferson Graham 26th in the 5,000-meter race for the JV boys.
