It is surprising what the Albuquerque public libraries have to offer in their range of media, the number of books patrons can have checked out at one time, and the classes and resources available.
As many as 50 books, DVDs or CDs can be checked out at a time by one patron.
It takes only filling out a form and a few minutes of your time to get a library card, and with conveniences like book self-checkout, computer labs and free Wi-Fi, copy machines, and private workstations, libraries can be a great place to get some work done away from the hustle and bustle of distractions.
There are an assortment of programs and events each month with baby/toddler and preschool story times, as well as doggie reading sessions where children can practice reading aloud to their pets.
Other programs include:
- Lego sessions with different themes
- Digital classes on how to use programs such as Microsoft Word
- Book clubs with genre-specific themes
- Monthly writing group meetings
- Crochet, embroidery and macrame classes
- Chess club
Additionally, a variety of other classes and group meetings are offered throughout the year each month.
The movie and music sections are a great way to find DVDs and CDs that are sometimes not streamed on the internet, including several that are older or obscure.
The young adult section at the Juan Tabo library has a graphic novel area with an array of sub-genres, including manga, superhero and nonfiction.
The Cherry Hills Library has an area specific to books in other languages with its international collection section, which offers literature in a dozen different dialects.
Both libraries have a seedling station and grow area where plants are thriving, and residents can learn about the free seed bank.
Thirty seed packets, with one packet per variety over the year, can be picked up free at particular locations, including the Juan Tabo Library.
