Madison Middle School’s volleyball team will go into its post-season tournament as the number-one seed in its division after defeating Tony Hillerman on Wednesday.

“The A-team match was a battle of the undefeated,” Madison volleyball coach Michael Gallegos said. “It was a back-and-forth match with Madison winning the first game 25-19, then Hillerman winning the second game 25-19.”

Madison came back to win the third set 15-13, giving them a 7-0 undefeated record. “The third game showcased the girls amazing sets, digs and hits,” Gallegos said.

The B-team also defeated Tony Hillerman on Wednesday in what Gallegos said was “their best match of the season.” The team won the first two sets for the win. “They avoided a third set by winning a thriller second set 26-24 with Charlie Conway serving the match point. All members of the team worked together to end the season on a high note,” Gallegos said.

Coaches, players and fans wore pink at Tony Hillerman to help raise awareness about breast cancer. Madison’s next matchup is against Atrisco Heritage Academy Saturday, Oct. 15.
