A man was found dead in the bushes outside the Marriott Pyramid on Paseo Del Norte and Jefferson Tuesday, July 26. Albuquerque police were called out around 4:15 p.m. to reports of an individual lying in the bushes when they found the body.

Albuquerque Police Department Spokesperson Daren DeAguero is quoted in the Albuquerque Journal as saying, “Homicide detectives are currently conducting the investigation.” Police are also investigating another possible homicide that occurred on Tuesday in the 400 block of Rhode Island NE.

If both deaths are ruled as homicides, that would bring the total number of homicide victims in the Albuquerque metro to 73 for the year. In 2021, there were a record 116 homicides. The number of homicides reported do not include those that occurred in unincorporated parts of Albuquerque.

On July 20, a 25-year-old male was stabbed to death in the Sandia foothills near Forest Road 333 and La Luz Trailhead. Bernalillo County Sheriff’s arrested and charged 23-year-old Marty Platero for an open count of murder in that case.

See the map below to find locations and more information about homicides that have taken place in the Albuquerque area this year. Blue indicates solved homicides and red unsolved homicides. According to the map, there have been 72 homicides reported by APD and 12 homicides reported by BCSO in the Albuquerque area so far this year.
