Gael Rodriguez was sentenced to over four years in prison for carjacking in January.

On Jan. 16, police responded to a carjacking at the River Walk apartments, near Corrales and Alameda, and found a woman bleeding from her left hand. She told police a man asked her for a cigarette, which she did  not have, then demanded her purse and keys to her vehicle. When the woman resisted, Rodriguez stabbed her in the hand then grabbed the keys and fled in the woman’s vehicle. Rodriguez, a 20-year-old citizen of Mexico, pleaded guilty on March 23. Rodriguez will be subject to three years of supervised release and deportation after he is released from prison.

Police were able to locate the vehicle in Corrales and arrest Rodriguez after a short pursuit on foot.
