A memorial honoring the four Bernalillo County first responders who were killed in a helicopter crash on July 16 has been set up outside of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office North Area Command.

The community is invited to visit the memorial and drop off cards or photos. Visitors can also bring flowers and balloons.

Lt. Fred Beers, Undersheriff Larry Korea,  Deputy Michael Levison and Specialist Matthew King were killed in a crash near Las Vegas, New Mexico, while on their return trip to Albuquerque, after assisting with a wildfire. They had spent the day providing bucket drops and other air logistics needs to assist fire crews on the ground. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Levison, a 30-year-old Volcano Vista High School alumnus, was laid to rest Wednesday. He was honored at The Pit Wednesday morning as community gathered to pay their respects. He is being laid to rest at the Santa Fe National Ceremony. Levison worked at the North Area Command.
