The Office of Neighborhood Coordination released a Sept. 19 video reminding neighborhood associations and coalitions they have until Nov. 27 of next year to revise their bylaws to be in compliance with the Neighborhood Association Recognition Ordinance.
Updates to NARO were approved by city council earlier this year. The updated ordinance states that neighborhood associations and coalitions cannot require dues to be a member or to vote. Associations and coalitions can still solicit donations, but membership dues are no longer allowed in the city proper.
Other changes include the delivery of developer and permit applicant information to recognized neighborhood coalitions where they have member associations. The change allows coalition members to discuss new developments and conduct outreach prior to any site changes or construction.
