La Cueva is ranked the number one best public high school in the Albuquerque area for 2022, according to the most recent data released by niche.com. The website uses multiple data sources to rank schools, including self-reported data, and data from the U.S. Department of Education and the National Center for Education Statistics. Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality and high school ratings.

La Cueva High School’s overall Niche grade is an A. The school received in A for academics and a B+ for health and safety. The school’s worst grade, a C+, is for resources and facilities. La Cueva is also ranked number one out of 147 in 2022 for best college prep public high schools in New Mexico, number 3 of 211 for best public high schools in New Mexico, and number six of 532 for best high schools for STEM in New Mexico. Niche ranks La Cueva number 973 out of 19,984 for best public high schools in America.

For comparison, Albuquerque Academy is ranked number one for Niche’s 2022 best schools in the Albuquerque area, followed by Sandia Preparatory School, and then Menaul School. Albuquerque Academy is ranked number two for best private schools in New Mexico and number 149 of 4,290 for best private high schools in America. Albuquerque Academy receives an overall Niche grade of an A+.

Middle and elementary schools

Desert Ridge Middle School receives an overall Niche grade of A- and is ranked number five for best public middle schools in Bernalillo County. Madison Middle School receives an overall Niche score of B+ and is ranked number 65 for best public middle schools in New Mexico. McKinley Middle School gets an overall Niche grade of C and is ranked number 58 of 251 for most diverse public middle schools in New Mexico. Dennis Chavez Elementary receives an overall Niche grade of A- and is ranked number 18 for best public elementary schools in Albuquerque.
