Most of the state voted Democrat on Election Day, as shown in today’s polls.
In the race for District 5 County Commissioner, Eric Olivas won with 54%, while Judy Young had 46% of the 56,488 votes counted.
Olivas said about his victory, “I’m grateful to have won the support of the majority of voters in District 5. The voters supported a new and positive vision for the future of Bernalillo County. I’m ready to dive into the issues and work across the aisle and up and down the ladder of government from our federal delegation to our partners at the state and city to bring resources to address our local problems and support working people and local small businesses. I’m grateful for all of my supporters, my volunteers, my campaign staff and of course my family. I also want to thank my opponent for running a positive campaign and focusing on issues and policy. While we may differ on how we solve problems, we all love our community and want to see this place we call home thrive. To those who did not vote for me I hope to earn your trust and serve you on the commission regardless. I look forward to serving my hometown and the beautiful East Mountains community over the next 4 years.”
In the New Mexico State House District 24, Elizabeth Thomson won with 59% while Khalid Emshadi had 41% of the 12,618 votes.
In District 28, Pamelya Herndon won with 52% and Nicole Chavez lost with 48% of 14,333 votes.
