Northeast Heights weekend roundup: Oct. 20-24

1. Dueling Pianos at Uptown Funk in Revel is Albuquerque’s first exclusive dueling piano bar. The dueling pianos show is the top music hits of all time combined with showmanship, energy and comedy. Only $5 cover, from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20.

2. Truck-A-Palooza at Expo NM gives those kids that are obsessed their firetruck or construction loader toys can now take a tour of the real thing at Truck-A-Palooza. This event is only $5 and is a family fun event offering kids of all ages a hands-on experience to explore large vehicles, see how they work and even sit in the driver’s seat. These large vehicles include construction trucks, utility trucks, emergency responder vehicles and more. From exploring cars and trucks to getting creative at the arts and crafts table and playing with giant bubbles, there’s plenty for everyone. The wide variety of children’s activities will keep everybody busy and active. Go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at Expo NM. 

3. Bubble Hearts Halloween Stroll by Bubble Heart Soap Co. will bring together 25 vendors, food, music and family fun. Be sure to dress up because there will be a costume contest for adults and kids. Get Christmas shopping done early as there will be many items amazing local vendors. This event is free and starts at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at 9226 Menaul NE.

4. Ziggi’s Coffee is offering a free 16-ounce drink from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Saturday, Oct. 22, as part of its grand opening. The new Ziggi’s Coffee is located at 5200 Menaul NE.

Citywide events

5. The competition is about to get trashy. The Albuquerque Solid Waste Management Department and its Keep Albuquerque Beautiful program will be hosting a competition in the Bosque to clean up litter and illegal dumping. Starting at 9 a.m. Saturday participants can pick up litter, or “plog,” while jogging in two different routes near Central and Sunset. After the event, KAB will award prizes to the top three individuals and top three groups that collect the most bags of litter.

6. The public has the opportunity to make enrichment items for the ABQ BioPark. From 6:30-8 p.m. Friday attendees will design and create Halloween-themed enrichment items for the zoo animals. Before the end of the night, education staff will test some of the creations, such as tiger scratching posts or an armadillo puzzle, on the BioPark’s ambassador animals, and animal care staff will vote on the best visitor-made designs. The BioPark will be placing enrichment items in animal habitats for Boo at the Zoo. Tickets must be purchased in advance online and run $15 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under and seniors 65-plus. They can be purchased at HoldMyTicket.

7. Head over to the National Hispanic Cultural Center, 1701 Fourth St. SW, for the Noche de Familia. From 5-9 p.m., enjoy an evening of fun for the whole family, including trick-or-treating, art making, music and a free screening of “Coco” at 7 p.m. The event is free, but advance registration can be made here.

8. Catch the one-man musical “’33(A Kabarett)” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Fusion, 700 First St. NW. The show is written and performed by Bremner Fletcher Duthie with original direction by Dave Dawson. It is about an actor who tumbles onto the dark stage of a ruined theatre, finding himself alone when the lights come up. His friends and colleagues have disappeared, arrested by the authorities, with only their glittering, torn costumes remaining. In tribute, he recreates the acts of the missing company.
