The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the northern two-thirds of the state, including the Albuquerque metro area. The advisory is in effect from Monday night to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Winds of 35 to 45 mph are expected with the possibility of gusts up to 65 mph.

Strong winds can make driving dangerous, especially for high-profile vehicles. The weather service urges drivers to use extra caution.

A red flag warning is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday for areas below snowpack, to include the middle Rio Grande Valley. The NWS in Albuquerque also issued a fire weather watch, which is in effect from Wednesday morning to Wednesday evening. The weather service does not recommend any outdoor burning and warns that fires will spread rapidly.
