Drivers can expect traffic delays and partial road closures along Ventura Street and Holly Avenue as the first phase of construction begins on a roundabout at the intersection.

Josh Rogers, a Partner at Titan Development, said Phase 1 of the roundabout began Tuesday, Jan. 3. “The total construction is scheduled to take anywhere from five to seven months to complete,” Rogers said in a response to questions.

An online map at hollyventuraconstruction.com shows a short section of Holly Avenue, just east of Ventura, will be closed off to traffic during Phase 1 of the construction. The east lane of Ventura will also be closed from Paseo del Norte to Holly Avenue, with drivers being diverted into a single north- southbound lane.

Titan Development, the real estate and investment firm spearheading the 111-unit Allaso Vineyards apartment complex at 8901 Holly Ave., is coordinating the installation of the roundabout project.

Engineers proposed constructing the roundabout to help mitigate congestion after a traffic study was presented to the city of Albuquerque and state Department of Transportation in January 2021. The study found the intersection to be a problem for drivers with or without the development of the apartment complex.

The cost of the project is estimated to be $900,000.
