A fatal shooting that took place early Sunday morning at a party on the westside is under investigation by Albuquerque Police Department Homicide detectives. APD identified the victim Monday as Jada Gonzales, an 18-year-old Albuquerque Academy student.

APD is asking for anyone who may have video from the incident to share it with investigators at this Evidence Submission Portal.

Officers responded at 12:49 a.m. to a 911 call and a ShotSpotter activation in the area of  5205 La Bajada Road NW.

Homicide detectives determined there were at least two shooters who fired guns shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, during a party being held at a home located at 5205 La Bajada Road NW. Gonzales, who was inside the home, was struck by one round. She later died at a hospital as a result of her injury.

“This investigation is very complex due to the number of people who were at the party and several factors that detectives are scrutinizing,” APD Chief Harold Medina said in a release. “But we do know that this shooting stemmed from a house party with alcohol, uninvited and underage guests and the presence of firearms. That is a deadly mix that often leads to tragedy.

“I am truly saddened by the senseless death of a promising young member of our community with great hopes and aspirations.”
