Music, beer, kids’ activities and five hours of fun is planned for Heights Summerfest 2022 at North Domingo Baca Park Saturday, June 11. The fun begins at 5 p.m., starting with vintage rock and roll band DK & The Affordables. The event ends at 10 p.m. after the Preservation Hall Jazz Band completes its headliner performance.
Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s newest album, “89” features Charlie Gabriel, a musician who has played for more than 75 years. Gabriel played in Lionel Hampton’s band as a teenager living in Detroit and has toured with popular artists such as Aretha Franklin. Other albums by PHJB include “That’s It,” “So It Is,” and “A Tuba to Cuba.”
The Latin blues band Felix y Los Gatos goes on stage at 6 p.m., and ChillHouse with Hillary Smith is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Preservation Hall Jazz Band begins the headliner performance at 8:30 p.m.
Beer, wine and cocktails will be available from a variety of local establishments, including 505 Spirits, Boxing Bear Brewing, Hollow Spirits, Santa Fe Brewing Company and many more. Plenty of food will be available as well. Food trucks from 2 Guys 1 Grill, Blacxican Cocina, Chocolate Cartel and several others will bring a mix of flavors and tastes to satisfy the pallet.
Summerfest fanatics can also grab snacks and drinks from places like the Chamoy Bar and Stargazer Kombucha while shopping among the many vendors at the park. Items for sale include everything from jewelry and clothes to pottery and sugar scrubs.
Kids can get their face painted, bounce the evening away on one of the inflatable jump houses, or conquer the 25-foot climbing wall while at the park. Heights Summerfest is a free event, rain or shine. Leashed pets are welcome, and bicyclists encouraged to use the bike valet provided by Esperanza Bike Education Center.
