Skateboarding continues to carve its place into Albuquerque. The 14th annual Vans Off the Wall All Nations Skate Jam is dropping in at North Domingo Baca Park April 30.

Gates open at 8 a.m., and the contest starts at 10 a.m. The event is scheduled to end by 7 p.m. The city of Albuquerque’s Parks and Recreation website says, “All Nations Skate Jam is the National Championship of Skateboarding for Native American youth and is open to all who wish to compete.”

Will Bustos, the city’s listed contact for the event, said world-renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk is expected to make an appearance at the Skate Jam. Vans pro skaters Tony Alva, Christian Hosoi and Steve Van Doren, the son of Vans co-founder Paul Van Doren, are also scheduled to be at next Saturday’s event.

The event is free to the public with masks encouraged for safety. A flyer reminds visitors that alcohol and drugs are prohibited at the skatepark. The event coincides with the April 28-30 Gathering of Nations Pow-Wow at Tingley Coliseum, which features Native American dance, music, art and culture.
