Project Feed the Hood is a food literacy and community gardening program that has made and maintained gardens in Albuquerque schools and food sovereign communities since 2012. Recently, all of its gardening tools, which have been accumulated over the last three years, were stolen. A majority of these tools were donated by the organizers and volunteers who have made this program with the Southwest Organizing Project thrive for the last decade.

Project Feed the Hood’s goal is to engage people in an alternative food system steeped in history, tradition and sustainable agriculture that empowers them to improve community health. Not only does this project educate students about growing their own food, it has also made a place for people to come together and volunteer to help make Albuquerque a better place through food security. It’s also turned what were once empty lots into garden oases in communities that needed it.

“Despite our steady progression as an organization, we recently had years of garden equipment stolen, many of which were personal items from garden members and local organizers. Please help us by sharing and donating what you can. Any contribution helps go a long way for us, no matter how small,” the organization stated via social media.

If folks would like to donate to the project, click here, and people who would like to donate gardening tools can drop off needed items at the community garden at the corner of Ross and Wellesley.
